DoughbyMeg review

Ohai. So I am back here after..14 days. Although I've said that I wanted to write something every week in my previous post hahahaha because procrastination is my middle name. Or maybe my actual name 😳

Here's a doughnut photo hahaha yes hello I'm back with my attempt to review. This is from DoughbyMeg. I saw them on sponsored posts on Instagram so many times that I followed them. (So yes Instagram sponsored posts work on me! Hard not to be intrigued when you see the same thing 453578 times when you scroll Instagram) and on that fateful day I saw that they have these bombolinis to let go. Actually what are the differences between bombolinis and donuts? I only learnt of the word bombolini last year. 

So! The actual reason that I got them was because...... They are pretty near my house so the shipping was only RM5 hahaha. Also it has been stressful/sleepless for us so we needed the pick me up, and having sweet things I guess do good things for our moods! 

So these are RM58 (+RM5 shipping hahaha) for 7 baby bombolinis so one piece is estimated to be around RM8+. They are definitely not cheap compared to like Krispy Kreme haha but they were definitely prettier. Presentation was 100% from the paper bag to the doughnuts (sorry no photos of those because I suck as a photographer lol). The donut pastry was great, loved the 口感 of the donuts - they were still soft and fluffy even after a night in the fridge! Flavours were a lot more interesting too, lemme review them each independently from left to right!

1. Sour cream and onion

- ya who would have thought that this doughnut is not sweet?!?! I personally am not a fan because I only want sweet donuts la what is this bagel-ish thing! But I am a major sweet tooth so I found it a bit funny. The husband on the other hand loved it and it was one of his favorites! So I guess it's misaligned expectations because I was expecting dessert! Not breakfast lol. 

2. The OG butter sugar

- I like this! Very simple with no filling just lots of sugar HAHAHA. My kid who's a sweet tooth loved this too. So this reminded me of the mini donuts I got during my childhood in a bakery near my house, the type where they put a satay stick across and have like 5mini donuts for RM1? Does anyone know about this or is it only sold in the bakery near my house haha. Of course the dough is nicer here (one of the nicer doughs I've tried) and the sugar is more well sprinkled(?) and maintained(?) Because the ones I got in my childhood usually had their sugar melted into the dough after awhile hahaha. It's just a very no frills thing which I appreciate after all the others with fillings. Especially after sour cream and onion HAHA. 

3. Cookies and cream

- this was...okay. It did not wow me but it did not make me disappointed? Like I cannot even recall how it tasted already hahahaha but it was not weird or bad, just forgettable. So the life question I get out of this flavour is: if I only have 2 choices, do I want to be a cookies and cream or a sour cream and onion? I think I'll choose sour cream and onion although I didn't like it because at least it's memorable and there is more story/depth to it. And there are people like my husband who would actually love it lol. Not like there's anything wrong being a cookies and cream though your life will be a lot more peaceful for sure! 

4. Honeydew milk cream

- haha call me hard to please but this did not wow me too. First was it was so huge and full of cream THAT when I bit into it the cream kept falling everywhere! So there's no graceful way to for a graceful 淑女 like me to eat it HAHAHA. And the taste....mmm a bit artificial? The real honeydew on top and inside added a nice touch but the cream overpowered everything. I personally think they added this because they wanted something green in conjunction with Christmas. Which was fine I guess, it tasted like a lot of those korean honeydew ice cream but I was never a fan of those! 

5. Valhorna Dark chocolate and salted caramel

- this was pretty good for a chocolate lover like me! Loved the hint of bitterness. It made me afraid to give my kid too much because I was afraid of the caffeine level HAHAHA I need my kids to sleep!! So this one met my expectations? It tasted exactly like how I imagined it to be hahahaha. Tasted better than Krispy Kreme chocolate donuts for sure! 

6. Rose Lychee

- this was refreshing! I can taste and smell the rose and the lychee, and the cream was light. I've always loved lychee so this was good! Quite happy to have this after like sour cream and onion Hahaha yes I tak habis habis with that because I still cannot accept non sweet donuts!!! Then it should not be called donuts yo! (Also why you should choose to be a sour cream rather than the cookies and cream because you'll be definitely memorable!)

7. Thai milk tea 

-  重头戏来了！ This is my favourite!!! I ate this first actually and it elevated my experience so much! That I had high hopes for all the other donuts but yea maybe too high that some disappointed me. I think this will be too sweet for some people, but it was perfect for me and my sweet tooth! 吃下去满满的幸福感 😍 The donut that definitely made me happy and eyes shooting out hearts hahahahha. I am so sad that they don't have the option of choosing your own flavour because now I need to endure all other flavors if I want to eat this flavour again! Highly recommended! 

So all in all, I would say can order to try if the delivery is not expensive hahahahha. 

Next post won't be a review post already! If I can I'll update this week (whips my procrastinating butt wtf hahahahahha)
